Playing Roulette

April 7th, 2009 by admin

People have different theories about playing roulette. Many people have written books, write ups and publications about how to play roulette in casino successfully. In simpler word, you can understand online roulette as a game of chance. The wheel is twirled fro chance, this roll is entirely random. There is no pattern or sequence. Therefore you can rely on the authenticity of the random generation. The roulette wheel is twirled with the assistance of a croupier. The roulette wheel compartments are typically thirty seven to thirty eight in stature. A thirty seven slot wheel has a zero numbered compartment. These compartments are varying, red and black in color, alternately apart from the zero number partition, which are in general dyed in green. This was all about the layout of the roulette table. It holds a lot of importance for understanding the game well .many people says that the marble also follows a pattern. This pattern of the number depends on the previous number the marble lands upon. Some people have also tried to observe the spin of the wheel multiple numbers of times for hours. They wanted to know if the marble follows any pattern on the wheel or not. But it is really sad to say that no one has ever noticed a pattern.

Zero

The zero and double zero are not counted in the outside bets and a player losses his bet if the ball lands on either of these two. For outside bets a player can bet on red or black color which means that he will win if the ball drops in the chosen color. This type of bet pays 1 is to 1. Then there is even/ odd bet which is the winning number will either be even or odd. Here also, the payout is 1:1. Another type is Low/ high bet. If the ball falls in lower range that is from 1 to 18 the winner is one who bet on the lower range. The higher range is from 19 to 36. The payout is 1: 1. A player can bet on any three long columns. There are three columns on the layout table consisting of 12 numbers each. This bet pays you 2 to 1. You can bet on the dozens that is first dozen (1-12), second dozen (13- 24) and third dozen (25-36). The payout here is 2 is to 1. All roulette tables have minimum and maximum bets.

Bets

In roulette, a player can place many different bets. The player can place the betting chips on the betting table which has all the characteristics of bet marked on it. There are outside bets and inside bets. The inside bets are placed on the inner part of the table and payouts are higher here. Betting on a single number is a Straight bet and chip is placed on the number. It has the lowest odds of all the best and hence the payout is 35 to 1. When a player places a bet on two numbers it means two adjacent numbers, either horizontal or vertical. This bet is called Split and the chip is placed between the two adjoining numbers. The payout here is 17:1. You can place bet on three neighboring numbers, Street bets. If the ball lands in any one of the numbers, you can win that bet with the payout of 11:1. Four number bets have a payout of 8 to 1 and are called corner or square bets. The chips are placed on the horizontal or vertical intersection of lines. The five number bets have payout of 6 to 1. Passé means betting on the last eighteen numbers. The six line bets are bets on two adjoining streets. For this a player can place the chips at the intersection of two streets on the layout. Several casinos use different colored chips for inside bets to distinguish them from other bets. The roulette chips are different from other chips used in casino games. These chips do not have any denomination printed on them. On the roulette table there are six to eight colored chips with each set having 300 chips. Every player who buys-in gets a single color. On the stack of chips of one player the dealer puts token on top indicating the value. After a win the winner can exchange the chips with the cash chips. These special chips have value imprinted on them. You take this to the exchange and get cash.

American roulette

The American roulette wheel has numbers from 1 to 36 with alternate black and red numbers. So in all there are 18 black numbers and 18 red numbers. Then there are green numbers too which are zero 0 and double zero 00. Thus, making 38 numbered pockets in all.  The French wheels have a single zero and thus their layout also has a single zero. So there are 37 pockets with 36 numbers and one single zero. A French styles roulette table has layouts on the either side or wheel in the centre where as an American table has wheel on one side and the layout on the other side of the table. Most casinos have American style wheels and French styled wheels are mostly found in casinos in Monte Carlo. The sequence of numbers is different in both types of wheels. As the odds are more in favor of a player in the French wheel than American wheel, it is a better wheel for players to play on. In a roulette wheel, the numbers seem to look very randomly placed to anyone. The truth is that the numbers are distributed such that sum of number of one section should roughly be equal to any other section consisting of same number pockets. Most numbers are a part of pair and have a single number between them. The total of the numbers which are a pair either comes to be 37 or 39.

French roulette

Roulette is a French word meaning ‘small wheel’. Blaise Pascal, the famous mathematician, invented it while he was studying for a perpetual device motion in the 17th century.  This original device was used for almost the next 200 years without any changes. Then in 1842, two Frenchmen by the name of Francois and Louis Blanc added a single 0 to the roulette wheel. There is also a story where it was believed that these Frenchmen had some deal with a devil as the numbers 1 to 36, when added, gave a total of 666 which is a devil’s number. After gambling was banned from some parts, François moved to Monte Carlo and opened a casino there and introduced his version of roulette there. The zero was added to the wheel to increase the house odds. In the 19th century, the roulette wheel reached the shores of USA and became very popular there. Here the double 00 was added thus taking the numbers to 38 in the American wheel. Earlier, American roulette wheels had an Eagle in place of 00. The zeros gave an added advantage to the casinos (house).

Roulette

Roulette, is one of the easiest to bet on and the hardest to win, of all the games in the casino.  As it is more about luck and chance than any skill it is difficult to win at roulette table. It is again a type of gambling game played in casinos but it is a mechanical device. With the flashy colors and action surrounding the roulette wheels it seems the most glamorous to the crowd. The roulette table consists of a roulette wheel and a roulette layout. The betting area on the table is called a layout. The roulette wheel has a ball track where the ball spins and it is the other track. Then there is a bias wheel which has all the number pockets. The innermost track of the wheel is stationary. With the start of the play, the dealer or the croupier (French word for dealer) here, spins the wheel and drops the ball in the rotating disc later. When the wheel is coming to a stop the ball drops in one of the numbered pockets and that is the winning number or color. Usually up to 8 players can play on a roulette table. The dealer is the one who spins the wheels, handles the bets and make the payouts.
